Ball State University funding increase and capital project included in new state budget

Included in the state’s new two-year budget approved by the legislature on Wednesday night is money for a new capital project at Muncie’s Ball State University.

In his first appearance before legislators earlier this session, Ball State President Paul Ferguson asked for $62.5 million to build a new STEM and Health professions building to expand science and math programs on campus. Ferguson told lawmakers that the current Cooper Science Complex wasn’t meeting the needs of the increasingly technical programs. That project was funded in full.

Lawmakers also approved a 3.4 percent increase in the university’s annual funding.
