Primary Elections in Motion
Today is primary day in Indiana, and if you’re not headed to the polls … you’re not alone.
In last year’s mid-term election, voter turnout in Indiana was lowest in the nation. Traditionally, turnout is even lower in municipal primaries. This year’s ballot features races for mayor and city council.
In the last municipal election four years ago, Delaware County turnout was just under 17 percent. Will Statom, chair of the county Republican Party chairman, told The Star Press that he thinks turnout today could amount to only 10 to 15 percent.
For a look at races and polling places in your community, check with the local county clerk’s office. Polls are open today until 6 p.m.
Tune to Indiana Public Radio, tonight for coverage of the primaries, starting at 7 p.m., after All Things Considered.
