State Fire Marshall Says Enjoy the 4th and be Careful

By Network Indiana | Published on in Uncategorized

(UNDATED) – Indiana State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says Hoosiers should have fun celebrating this July 4th weekend, but he urges caution.

He says you must be 18 years old to buy fireworks in Indiana and the merchant must have a permit from the Indiana State Fire Marshal‘s Office.

Greeson says you can legally set off fireworks from only three potential locations: your own property, some other property that grants permission or any location designated by the local jurisdiction. He says make sure your property including, grass, mulch, etc., are damp to help make them less flammable.

Greeson recommends that parents buy glow sticks for their little kids to keep them engaged yet safe during fireworks time. Finally, he says keep grilling activities, equipment and pets far away from fireworks. He also says don‘t drink and set off fireworks.
