Fired Elwood Employee Re-Hired
A former Elwood city employee who had been taking advantage of a free house on Elwood Parks property is back at work, after she was fired. Aakami Roberts wasn‘t entitled to any city perks, since she was part-time, but was living in a house that is typically reserved for the Elwood Parks Director.
The Mayor, Don Tucker, made a successful push to fire Roberts, and now much to the mayor‘s chagrin, Roberts is back on payroll, hired by park board member Sheila McPhearson.
Elwood Secretary John Ward says McPhearson didn‘t have hiring authority, which will likely mean Roberts is re-fired. Board Attorney Jeffrey Graham released an opinion that says Roberts should be let go immediately because she “escalates tensions” that already exist in Elwood.
A special session takes place today in Elwood to determine Roberts‘ fate.
