Carmel Passes LGBT Protections

By Network Indiana | Published on in Uncategorized

(CARMEL) – Carmel has joined Muncie and other Hoosier cities to pass a law protecting the LGBT community from discrimination. The Carmel City Council voted 4-to-3 in favor of the law that originally was backed by six of the seven council members when it was introduced in August. Some council members balked at the potential punishment for businesses who discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity – a warning for a first offense and a fine of up to $500 per day afterward. Some argued that the law wasn’t needed because there have been very few documented instances of LGBT discrimination.
