CAFO Odors Under Fire
Over the years, large confined feeding operations, known as CAFO’s, have become increasingly common in the state of Indiana.
In 2005, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels announced a plan to double pork production in the state by the year 2025, drawing large producers to the state. But as the size of the farms grew to raise more pork, there was a side effect — the smell.
As Side Effects Public Media’s Jake Harper reports, that smell could be harmful to the health of nearby residents and last week, it sparked a lawsuit that could threaten the state’s powerful Right To Farm laws.
