Free Admission Brings Fans to Muncie Music Festival

The city of Muncie has been filled with entertainment this fall, from the Old Washington Street Festival to ArtsWalk and the return of the Muncie Music Festival. This year was the event’s 9th year. Although event organizer Graham Watson considers this year’s festival a success, he says there is room for improvement..

“As always, we could have had bigger crowds, we could have paid the bands better, the food and drink vendors could have gotten more business, et cetera,” Graham said. “But everyone who showed up, including patrons, performers and volunteers, seems to have had a great time,”

After being cancelled last year because of a lack of sponsors, Graham said this year’s festival was free.

“With the community partners that have come together to make Muncie Music Festival happen this year everyone was on board to present it as a free gift to the community like we’ve always wanted it to be,” Graham said.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts and the Ball Brothers Foundation along with the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, inc. and Full Circle Arts Co-op partnered to bring the event back this year.  The festival was Saturday, October 10 at 5p.m. for people of all ages. Jeff Robinson, Director of community relations at Cornerstone Center for the Arts says people enjoyed a variety of music from 30 bands.

“Muncie has a rich history in music, so it’s just an opportunity to showcase that,” Robinson said.

The event continued into the night until 1 a.m. Bars and venues around Muncie hosted local bands. Whitney Lewis, owner of Be Here Now grill, says his business has always supported Muncie Music Festival.

“Muncie Music Festival allowing the night to be free only helped bring in new faces-who we hope recognize the value of supporting their live music scene. We’ve always supported the festival and hope to see it continue to grow in the future,”  Lewis said.

Performances throughout the night included The Indigos, The Twitter All-Stars and Dr. Boldylocks. For more information or to help plan next year’s festival visit Muncie Music Fest online.
