Indiana college presidents talk about diversity after Missouri protests

By Stephanie Wiechmann | Published on in Uncategorized

As activists at other US colleges begin to rally and demonstrate against racism in solidarity with protesters at the University of Missouri, Indiana college presidents are reminding students about their commitment to diversity.

In an email sent to all students and staff, Ball State University President Paul Ferguson says he plans to give a “State of Diversity” address next spring that will talk about recommendations from a previously established diversity council.

Purdue University President Mitch Daniels released a statement saying the campus aims to be “a welcoming, inclusive and discrimination-free community.” Students at the West Lafayette school have planned a solidarity rally for Friday afternoon.

Indiana State University in Terre Haute saw several students stage a hunger strike calling for more inclusion of diverse students. ISU President Dan Bradley told that group on Wednesday that mandatory diversity training will be implemented for new students starting next fall.
