ERs Starting to See “Holiday” Injuries

By Network Indiana | Published on in Uncategorized

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Burns, falls, drinking and driving and heart palpitations. Those are some of the issues that Indiana’s hospital emergency rooms are seeing this holiday time of year. Eskenazi Hospital’s (Indianapolis) Dr. Brian Fisher says many of the issues they see during holiday time can be traced to alcohol and drinking and driving.

However, he says they also tend to see sprained ankles, spinal injuries and head trauma. Fisher says those issues are often related to people falling from ladders or rooftops while they’re decorating their homes and decking the halls.

Fisher adds it’s not uncommon to get visits from diabetics who’ve overeaten and have elevated blood sugar issues. In addition, he says people also come in with cuts or burns from holiday cooking.
