Former Gov. Edgar Whitcomb Passes Away at Age 98
(INDIANAPOLIS) – Former Governor Edgar Whitcomb has passed away at age 98. Governor Pence says Whitcomb led “a period of reform and modernization” after his election in 1968. He served one term in office. Whitcomb entered politics as a war hero — the World War Two bomber pilot escaped twice from Japanese P-O-W camps. After an unsuccessful try for a U-S Senate nomination, Whitcomb retired from politics, and crossed both the Atlantic and Pacific in a small boat before returning home to southern Indiana.
