Carfentanil posing new, potent overdose threat in Midwest
A new, deadly opioid is believed to be causing surges of overdoses in the Midwest. It’s called carfentanil, and it’s said to be ten-thousand times stronger than morphine. In late August, the Cincinnati-area responded to 174 overdoses in 6 days. The rate has slowed since then, but not by much.
The effects of the overdoses ripple throughout the public health system, from first responders to the coroner. Side Effects Public Media’s Jake Harper reports from Cincinnati.
