Ball State University will welcome a third new trustee in several months to its governing board.  In his likely last group of appointments before leaving Indiana for the vice president’s office, Governor Mike Pence has appointed United Way Worldwide CEO Brian Gallagher to the Muncie university’s board of trustees.

United Way Worldwide describes itself as the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit.  Gallagher has worked with the organization since 1981, the same year he graduated from Ball State with a degree in social work.

In 2003, Ball State awarded Gallagher an honorary Doctorate of Humanities.  He also serves on the board of directors for the Ball State University Foundation.  Gallagher lives in Maryland and will serve a four-year term through the end of 2020, replacing retiring 27-year trustee Hollis Hughes.
