Gary Schools $100 Million in Debt; Senate Approves Emergency Manager for System
Gary’s school system is drowning in red ink, and asking the state for help. The Senate has voted unanimously to appoint an emergency manager for the Gary schools’ finances. He’d be in charge of digging the system out of 100-million dollars in debt, starting with the forgiveness of state loans. The school board would still be in charge of academics. The House is working on changes to the details.
