Lawmakers Still Aiming to Collect Sales Taxes on All Internet Sales
Legislators haven’t given up on a proposal to start collecting sales tax on Internet purchases. A Supreme Court ruling says states can’t force companies to collect sales tax unless the company has a “nexus” to the state. That’s typically meant a physical presence, but a bill passed by the Indiana Senate would define it to cover any company with Indiana sales in six figures, or with at least 200 transactions in the state.
