10-Foot-Deep Sinkhole Forms in Muncie, One Road Closed

A large sinkhole opened up Saturday in Muncie causing city officials to close at least one road and issue a warning for people to avoid the area. The sinkhole is on McCulloch Boulevard just east of the Walnut Street and Granville Avenue split.

Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler said the hole is approximately 10 feet deep and 6 feet wide. Part of the road will remain closed until the sinkhole is completely taken care of.

Between three and six inches of rainfall was reported Friday in Muncie and other parts of Delaware County, perhaps contributing to the formation of the sinkhole.
