The Indiana Department of Education has released this year’s statewide exam scores.  Despite computer glitches that interrupted 16 percent of Hoosier students taking the ISTEP exam, the Department of Education says the state’s passing rate was up about two percentage points from last year.  Statewide, 73.5 percent of students passed both the math and English language arts portion of the test.

At Muncie Community Schools, 59 percent of students passed both the math and language arts portions.  60.1 percent of students passed in Anderson Community Schools.  New Castle Community Schools had a pass rate of 76.8 percent.  And 79.5 percent of students in Yorktown Community Schools passed both test portions.

Marion Community Schools improved their pass rate by more than four percent from last year – and this year passed 58.2 percent of students.  Daleville Community Schools improved their pass rate by 6 percent and Elwood Community School Corporation improved last year’s pass rate by almost 8 percent.

A New Hampshire-based testing expert advised the state to throw out only about 1,400 exams because of the spring’s computer glitches.  In total, around 495,000 students took the ISTEP exam this year.
