Now that 6th District Congressman Luke Messer has announced he’s running for the US Senate, one Republican state senator says he’ll run to replace Messer in the House of Representatives.

On Facebook yesterday, state Senator Mike Crider of Greenfield says he has skills developed during his career in law enforcement and in the state Senate that will serve him in the job.  Crider says he’ll complete the official paperwork “in the coming days.”

Indiana law prohibits Congressman Messer from running for two offices at the same time, so he won’t be able to run for re-election to the seat he’s held since 2012.  Messer hopes to unseat incumbent US Senator Democrat Joe Donnelly.

Crider has served in the Indiana Senate since 2012.  He represents Hancock County and parts of Shelby and Marion counties.
