Indiana Brewery Releases Special Solar Eclipse Beer

By JD Gray, IPB News | Published on in Business, Statewide News

A Columbus, Indiana brewery has brewed a special beer in honor of a rare event – next Monday’s solar eclipse.

450 North Brewing Company released “The Great Eclipse” last week.

“No one else in Indiana is actually doing something like this,” says Brad Brookbank, a sales representative for 450 North. “It’s a once in a lifetime beer, so we have to make sure the quality is perfect.”

The beer is in limited supply. The brewery is producing about 200 cases and 10 kegs of the beer, that will be distributed throughout central Indiana.

Brookbank says the style of the brew characterizes the eclipse well.

“Because you take your standard IPA, which could be the sun, and the New England style, which could be the moon, and it crosses paths,” he says. “You’re expecting that big bitterness out of an IPA, but with the New England style, it’s masked because of the brewing process.”

The New England IPA has an 8.21 alcohol percent, to reference the eclipse’s August 21 date.

Brookbank says the brewery only produced about 200 cases and 10 kegs to be distributed through central Indiana.

The brewery plans to have the beer on tap during the eclipse on August 21.
