Four Indiana counties that were in danger of having no insurance options for customers on the Affordable Care Act marketplace will have choices in 2018. Decatur, Jackson, Grant and Wayne Counties were at risk of having no providers next year after Anthem and MD Wise announced in June they would be leaving the market at the end of this year.

But this month CareSource and Managed Health Services, MHS, each notified the state they plan to expand to those counties.

CareSource agreed to remain in Grant, Decatur and Jackson counties. MHS agreed to offer coverage in Wayne County. In 2017, 1 percent of the county enrolled in exchange plans.

In a statement, Gov. Eric Holcomb says the insurers’ decisions shows why states are better prepared to meet the health care needs of residents versus the federal government.

“I commend CareSource and MHS for stepping forward to ensure that these four counties will have options for Hoosiers seeking a health insurance provider on the federal marketplace,” Holcomb said in a statement.

Open enrollment will being Nov. 1.
