Supporters of a hate-crimes law in Indiana are gearing up for another try. David Sklar with the Jewish Community Relations Council suggests a neo-Nazi rally in Virginia where one protester was killed may change some minds about the need for a hate-crimes law — and he says the timing is better. The bill would allow longer sentences if a victim was targeted for his race or religion. It passed the Senate last year but died in the House. This year, it didn’t make it that far.
