James Whitford’s men’s basketball Cardinals inexplicably fell flat in the second half – again – last night at Central Michigan.  The Cards trailed the Chippewas 33 to 30 at halftime, and ended up losing by 24 points, 75 to 51.

Ball State is now 19-and-11 overall, and 10-and-7 in the MAC West.  The loss puts Ball State’s bye to the MAC Tournament in jeopardy.  Ball State must win at Northern Illinois, Friday, to keep a top-four seed.  The top four teams advance to the MAC quarterfinals at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

The Cards committed 16 turnovers to Central’s 6.  Ball State had balanced scoring, just not enough of it.  Tahjai Teague led the Cards with 10 points. Tayler Persons had nine points, but shot only 3 of 14 from the field.

Ball State wraps up its regular season at Northern Illinois, Friday night.  You can see the game on ESPN-3.  Tipoff is at 8 p.m., EST.

Tonight, Brady Sallee’s Ball State women’s basketball Cardinals travel to Central Michigan.  The Cards are 23-and-4 overall, and 12-and-4 in the MAC West. Central is the top team in the MAC with a 15-and-1 conference record, and a 23-and-4 overall record, identical to Ball State’s.  Tipoff is at 7, tonight, on ESPN-3.  Ball State has already secured a bye to the MAC Tournament in Cleveland.
