State lawmakers are targeting May 14 for a special session to address a few issues that couldn’t get over the finish line during the regular session that ended last month.

House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) says he’s confident legislators will only need one day of a special session to conclude their work. And he reiterates that they’ll only consider a few issues – federal tax conformity, a Muncie-Gary school takeover bill, and a school safety measure.

Bosma also says lawmakers will strive for transparency in the special session – with more details soon on just what that means.

“We’re going to announce on Friday, a procedure a little different than has ever happened in the past, with the goal of transparency, so everyone has in their hands what we’re going to be working on very early,” Bosma says.

The House Republican caucus met Tuesday behind closed doors to discuss the special session.

Bosma says lawmakers may consider some technical corrections during the special session, to fix unintended flaws in legislation passed earlier this year.
