A train carrying liquid propane derailed south of Princeton shortly after seven p.m. central time Sunday.  Princeton resident Alescia Bradshaw now knows what it sounds like when thirty thousand gallons of liquid propane explodes a little more than a half mile from your home. “You can hear the rumble, and you could hear the roar. Then you just heard the explosion, and I went and opened the doors ‘cause I could hear it over all the commotion of my house. I just opened the door and saw black smoke.”

Bradshaw is a health services volunteer with the Red Cross, so she had already left the area to help with the incident when police went door to door at 60-70 homes and businesses nearest to the crash site as part of a mandatory evacuation.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Roads will remain closed and the evacuation in place until the fire is out. Fire officials expect it to burn anywhere from several hours to several days.

Police have not said what caused the derailment.
