Police in Carmel say they have arrested two people they believe drew anti-Semitic graffiti on a Carmel synagogue last month.  Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Drew Daudelin reports.

Nolan Brewer, a 20-year-old man from Cloverdale, Indiana, has been arrested and charged for the Nazi graffiti found at a Carmel synagogue in July.

A co-conspirator was also arrested, and remains in custody. U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler says the investigation is ongoing and gave no details about the co-conspirator, but he says the person is a juvenile.

Minkler says local and federal investigators received numerous tips about the crime, which led them to Brewer.

He says video surveillance at a Cloverdale Wal-Mart shows Brewer and the co-conspirator buying red and black spray paint before the vandalism occurred, and he says spray paint was found in Brewer’s vehicle after officers obtained a search warrant.

Minkler says no evidence shows Brewer was part of a larger group, or a group planning similar acts. He says Brewer admitted to his involvement in the crime.

Brewer has been charged with a criminal civil rights violation, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison.
