I-69 Construction Could Have You Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road

If you’ve ever wanted the terrifying thrill of driving down the wrong side of the highway, you might get your wish if you’re traveling through Delaware and Madison counties on Friday and Saturday.  IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports.

To do some shoulder work on I-69, the Indiana Department of Transportation is instituting what it calls a “traffic pattern switch” between mile markers 227 and 234.

For drivers going south, you’ll use the right lane and the outside shoulder on the southbound side.  It’s the drivers going north that will see the most change – in that some of them will need to drive on the southbound side, too.

INDOT is splitting traffic as it works on northbound lanes.  One northbound lane will be open to traffic going north and one southbound lane will be open to other drivers going north.

Depending on which exit ramp lanes you use, you might be directed to cross over the median and drive on what is normally the wrong side of the road.  The two exits affected include the State Road 9 exit 226 in Anderson and the State Road 67 exit 234 near Daleville.

INDOT says it expects its work to be done sometime Saturday, if the weather cooperates.
