The Indiana University School of Medicine has made
its newest focus.  Regenerative medicine focuses on engineering human cells to form tissue. Dr. Chandan Sen, part of the new team at IU’s School of Medicine, developed tissue nano-transfection. It uses a small, removable chip, genetic code and electricity to regenerate tissue on an animal.  “Every cell has some ability to regenerate, some cells more than others, and this entire discipline is about utilizing that ability to regenerate.”

Sen and his team have been recruited to continue this research that has not yet been tested on humans. Dean Jay Hess says there’s a lot of other work happening in this field right now.  “Regenerative medicine and wound healing for areas like diabetic ulcers or traumatic injuries or burns, there are a lot of areas of great promise.”

The Indiana Center for Regenerative
and Engineering is the latest pillar for the IU Precision Health Initiative.
