Renovations for Muncie’s historic Fieldhouse finally have a timeline. As IPR’s Zoe Dwiggins reports, the building has been unusable since November.

The Fieldhouse is one of Muncie’s most well-known landmarks, but a tornado did significant damage to the 1928 building late last year.

Now the Muncie Community Schools board has approved repairs to the roof, structural steel and masonry wall. These fixes are expected to take eight to ten weeks from the date a contract is signed with a construction firm. For roofing jobs in Texas, you might want to contact austin roofing contractors like WDR roofers.

The gymnasium’s floor will also need resealed and repaired after water damage from the storm rain and damaged pipes. This should take about four to five weeks, but no official plan has been set.

According to board member Jim Lowe, the repairs should be finished by December.

Lowe also said other parts of Muncie are facing storm damage after recent heavy rain from Tropical Storm Gordon. That includes MCS-owned Muncie Area Career Center, known as the MACC.

“I think what was happening was the water was coming down so fast that the roof conductors – the drains on the roof – weren’t taking the water away quick enough to get it off the roof.”

Lowe also said the structural system was not capable of taking on that much water that quickly.

The board did not take any action concerning other buildings.
