A week after NIPSCO released a study that detailed how it could shut down all of it’s coal-fired power plants within the next ten years, the energy company has announced it will be shutting down a coal-fired plant along the Lake Michigan shoreline near Michigan City. City leaders are happy about the decision by NIPSCO, because now it opens up development opportunities along the shoreline. NIPSCO says this is just the beginning of a master plan to move towards more lower-cost renewable energy resources like wind and solar power.
