Cards Lose Game, Bowl Eligibility at Toledo, Wednesday Night

By Stan Sollars, IPR News | Published on in Sports

Ball State’s football Cardinals lost at Toledo last night, 45 to 13.  The Cards also lost the chance for a bowl game, with that defeat.  Six wins are required to be bowl eligible.  The best Ball State can do is to win its last two games with Western Michigan and Miami to tally five victories against seven losses — still, a large improvement over last season’s 2-and-10 overall record, and no wins in the MAC.

Injuries again depleted the Cardinals’ roster.  The most obvious was the loss of starting quarterback Riley Neal, out with a left knee injury.  Backup quarterback Drew Plitt started the first game of his career and did well, completing 29 of 47 passes for 340 yards, one touchdown and two picks.

Both Toledo and Ball State racked up five turnovers.  Ball State grabbed five interceptions from errant Toledo passes.

Ball State has next week off and will host Western Michigan on Tuesday night, Nov. 13th, at Scheumann Stadium.
