Drivers using State Road 32 in Muncie might have to save time for detours next week.  A part of the road will be closed for several days to repair a Norfolk Southern railroad crossing.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says it will close Kilgore Avenue at the railroad crossing that cuts through Beech Grove Cemetery, between South Perkins Avenue and West 2nd Street.  The closure is scheduled to begin Monday morning, November 5, and run through the whole week, with an anticipated reopening sometime on Friday, November 10.

The official INDOT detour uses state roads and takes local drivers far out of the way. Local roads will be easier. (Provided by INDOT)

The official marked INDOT detour takes drivers a long way out of the way – directing cars to State Road 67 between I-69 and US 35.  Drivers familiar to Muncie will be able to use local roads to find a much shorter way around the closed tracks.

Repairs to the same rail line have already closed a portion of Godman Avenue to the northwest of State Road 32.  New railroad ties laid out along the track show other crossings may need to be closed in the future.
