Non-Binary Gender ID Option Now Available on Indiana Drivers Licenses

Residents in Indiana who don’t identify as male or female now have the option of describing themselves as a non-binary gender on their driver’s licenses and state identification cards.

Indiana law says every application for a driver’s license or ID must have information about the applicant’s gender. Now, instead of choosing ‘M’ or ‘F’ you can choose ‘X’, says Susie Guyer, the bureau’s executive director of marketing and communications.

If you choose ‘X’ you must have documentation that proves a permanent gender change, like an amended birth certificate or signed doctor’s statement.
