A pharmaceutical company will locate its global headquarters in Indianapolis. The move comes with the promise of hundreds of high paying jobs.

iA is a pharmacy automation company that provides software and technology to retail, government and mail-order organizations to help fill prescriptions. iA CEO Marvin Richardson said it is more important than ever to free up pharmacists to do their jobs.

“They are on the frontline of health care right now, most all of you are probably going to see one to get your vaccinations, they can’t vacate you if they don’t have the time to do that,” Richardson said.

The company’s leaders said they chose to move operations to Indiana because of its pro business environment, college pipeline and diverse talent pool.  Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb said growing business sectors also played a role.

“For the concentrations of industries of the future, lifesciences, healthcare and tech, you really bring it all together,” Holcomb said.

The company plans to bring more than 400 new jobs to Indianapolis and build two new central fill locations over the next two years.

“We’re looking for software developers. We’re looking for engineers. We’re looking for customer service experts and pharmacy professionals,” Richardson said.

Richardson said iA technology can help reduce the cost and time to dispense prescriptions and allows pharmacists to help more patients.

The state offered the company $8 million in performance-based tax credits.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said the move is vital to the city’s economic recovery and future.

“This momentum, and the jobs that will accompany it, will serve to give our city a competitive boost at a moment in time when just about every city needs one,” Hogsett said.

iA’s new global headquarters will open on the northeast side next month. The company will keep its national offices in Johnson City, New York where it was first established.
