Indiana State Health Commissioner testifies to Congress on HIV outbreak

By Casey Kuhn | Published on in Uncategorized

On the same day he approved a year-long needle exchange program in Indiana’s Scott County, the state’s health commissioner Jerome Adams testified to Congress about Indiana’s HIV outbreak.

In a Washington, DC hearing of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Adams suggested a three-part system for dealing with the drug abuse that led to the epidemic.

Adams says the number of HIV cases in Scott County is up to 160. The needle exchange program that he extended this morning has seen more than 14,000 dirty needles being traded for 16,000 clean ones.
