Juan Pablo Montoya Wins His Second Indianapolis 500
It took him 15 years to claim another place on the Borg-Warner Trophy, but Juan Pablo Montoya did it by winning his second Indianapolis 500, Sunday.
Team Owner Roger Penske collected his 16h Indy 500 win. In fact, Penske drivers, and their Chevrolets, finished one-two in the race. Team Penske’s Will Power finished second.
Chip Ganassi-owned Chevrolets finished 3-4. Charlie Kimball squeaked by teammate and pole sitter Scott Dixon for third.
Graham Rahal rounded out the top five, and drove the highest-finishing Honda. Rahal drove for Rahal, Letterman, Lanigan Racing — partly owned by the just-retired Late Show host, and Ball State graduate, Dave Letterman.
Montoya, Kimball, Dixon, and Power separated themselves from the field and traded places a number of times during the final dozen laps of the race.
Montoya has raced at the 500, three times, winning twice. He started 15th this year, fell back as far as 30th, then rallied to be in a position to lead the field in the 99th Indy 500’s final laps.
