Muncie Community Schools Might See Layoffs

By The Star Press | Published on in Uncategorized

MUNCIE – Layoffs could become a reality for the Muncie Community Schools system. The district is pressed for cash. It has a deficit of just under a million dollars – down from $3 million thanks to the sale of Wilson Middle School.

School officials say reducing staff might have to be done to make ends meet.

The Star Press reports school superintendent Tim Heller and the Muncie Teachers Association are putting together a new RIF or reduction-in-force policy.

Heller hopes these decisions will be made and ready by Monday, when a special board meeting will be held. The district must figure out staffing for next year. Time is running out as the last day for students is Thursday.
