State police warning drivers breaking new state left lane law

By Network Indiana | Published on in Uncategorized

State police estimate they’ve handed out more than 100 warnings to drivers blocking the left lane of Indiana highways in the first six days of a new state law. Since July 1, staying in the left lane of a highway when a car is trying to pass can earn you a fine of up to $500. Legislators who opposed the law said tickets would be given to those going the speed limit instead of the more dangerous speeders. State police spokesman Todd Ringle says police are enforcing the law as it is written.

Ringle says troopers are handing out warnings instead of tickets to educate people about the new law and the warnings are going to the most blatant violations.
