David Letterman’s mother passed away yesterday.

Dorothy Mengering was 95.  She passed away in her Carmel home, according to an obituary written by her children and provided by Letterman’s publicist. She worked as a secretary at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis for several years, then gained national fame on her son David’s CBS-TV “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Mengering was a correspondent on David’s show from three Winter Olympic games.  She also read Top 10 lists from her Carmel kitchen.

Dorothy Mengering made annual appearances here on the Ball State campus each April for several years at the Department of Telecommunications awards banquet, where she would help present the Letterman Scholarships.

She was on hand with David for the dedication ceremony of the building from which we broadcast: The David Letterman Communication and Media Building.

Details are pending for a memorial service for Mengering at Second Presbyterian Church.
