Hubbard Withdraws From U.S. DOE Deputy Secretary Nomination
Indianapolis philanthropist and school reform advocate Al Hubbard has taken himself out of consideration for the U.S. Education Department deputy secretary nomination.
Hubbard told Indiana Public Broadcasting he’s been in the vetting process for the country’s number two education job for months.
But he says the Office of Government Ethics’ financial requirements would have caused his family significant complications.
Hubbard is a former top economic adviser to President George W. Bush and previously chaired the Indiana Republican Party.
Hubbard says he’ll continue to support U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and President Donald Trump in their plans to expand school choice in the country.
