Muncie removes EMS chief as he’s facing felony charges in Jay County

The city of Muncie says it is withdrawing the appointment of its chief of emergency medical services. The move comes as he’d been put on administrative leave as he’s the subject of a criminal case in Jay County.
Wesley Miller was recently charged with two felony counts for “residential entry” and “domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old”, according to charges posted on the state’s judicial case system. Court documents say the charges came after an incident with Miller’s ex-wife over visitation issues with their child.
Last week, Muncie put Miller on administrative leave from the Muncie Fire Department. Mayor Dan Ridenour’s office said the allegations were unconnected to Miller’s work with EMS in Muncie, where public government payroll records show he’s worked since 2022.
But on Wednesday, Ridenour’s office says it’s withdrawing Miller’s appointment as EMS chief for “the best interest of the department and the community it serves.”
The mayor’s office did not name an interim leader, saying it was assessing options.
