US Senate Race: Stutzman files challenge to Young’s candidacy

By Brandon Smith | Published on in Uncategorized

Republican US Representative Marlin Stutzman has filed an official challenge to the candidacy of his rival for the GOP US Senate seat nomination, US Representative Todd Young. State Democrats filed a challenge to Young’s campaign earlier this week with the Indiana Election Division, claiming Young doesn’t have the required number of signatures to be on the ballot. Stutzman is now doing the same, after several media organizations – including Indiana Public Broadcasting at the Statehouse – independently found that Young is three signature short.

In competing campaign statements, Stutzman says the rule of law must be followed, Young must take responsibility for his own campaign, and drop accusations of party politics. In response, Young accused Stutzman of adopting what his campaign calls “Obama, Chicago-style tactics.”

The Indiana Election Commission could rule on the challenges as early as next week.
