Fort Wayne zoo’s lion euthanized after cancer diagnosis
The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo’s only male lion has been euthanized just one week after he was diagnosed with cancer. Zoo staff first noticed problems with Bill the Lion’s health last fall when his nose started bleeding and he lost his appetite. Last week, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Zoo spokeswoman Bridget Pearson says as Bill’s health continued to decline, the zoo made the decision to euthanize him. He would have turned 10 years old in July. The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo opens for the summer season on April 23.
