State Representative Phil Hinkle will not resign; Bosma calls for resignation

Speaker of the House Brian Bosma says Indianapolis Representative Phil Hinkle should resign his seat amid accusations he initiated a sexual encounter with a young man at an Indianapolis hotel.  As Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports, Bosma has already has begun removing the six-term Republican from committee leadership posts.

If Hinkle would resign, precinct committee leaders in his district would choose a successor.   New district boundaries do not take effect for state Representatives until 2012 – so that decision would lie with precincts that voted for the office in the November 2010 election.
