Judge says White ineligible for Secretary of State’s office

An afternoon judgement from the Marion County Circuit Court today says that Secretary of State Charlie White was ineligible to run for office in the 2010 election.  Judge Louis Rosenberg found evidence that White was not living at his stated address when he filed to run for office.   If this ruling stands, Democratic challenger Vop Osili is the winner of the election and will become Indiana’s Secretary of State.  The Marion County Circuit Court will now send the case back to the Indiana Recount Commission, whose ruling Rosenberg today overturned.  According to spokesperson AJ Feeney-Ruiz, the Commission will be asking for an immediate stay of Rosenberg’s ruling.  State Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s office will file that motion.  Since a state holiday began this afternoon, no courts or offices will be open until next week.  Feeney-Ruiz says as of right now, Charlie White is still Secretary of State.  Charlie White’s office has not commented on the court’s ruling.  Meanwhile, the Indiana Democratic Party has sent a congratulatory letter to Osili.
