Homegrown Christmas trees delivered to Indiana Statehouse

Members of the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association delivered trees to the Statehouse today to be displayed in the rotunda and the offices of the governor and lieutenant governor.  All the live trees come from Hensler Nursery in Starke County.  Owner John Hensler says Indiana exports and wholesales many of its Christmas trees.  But every year, a growing number are purchased commercially.

According to the tree growers association, Indiana has 200 tree farms, with sales totaling about $15 million.  A USDA Agriculture Census for 2007 shows about 200,000 Hoosier Christmas trees are sold nationwide each year.
