Valentine’s Day was a special day for a dog from Muncie in New York City’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Padre – that’s his short-form name — won the Best-of-Breed competition for Russell Terriers in the nation’s most prestigious dog show, televised nationally. The three-year-old terrier was bred by Dr. Alan Hargrave, Ball State’s Associate Vice President of Student Affairs.  Hargrave directs the university’s Housing and Residence Life program.  He also co-owns Padre with Jill Ferrera. Padre’s handler in the show was Gustavo Molinari.

By winning the Russell Terrier best-of-breed prize, Padre advanced to the Terrier Group, last night, but did not make it to Best-in-Show.

Still, Padre’s fans agree he represented Russell Terriers, Muncie, and Ball State quite well.
