Indiana GOP Platform and Nominees Ready for November
The Indiana Republican Party has a new platform and three nominees for statewide offices. The state GOP convention was held Friday and Saturday in Evansville. Delegates rallied behind Senate candidate Mike Braun, who will face Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly in November. The crowd periodically chanted “Send Joe home!”…and Braun himself even joined in.
Republicans also officially nominated their candidates for statewide office – all incumbents. That includes Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Auditor Tera Klutz, and Treasurer Kelly Mitchell. National Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel says she’s glad to see the party nominate women. “We know we’re the party that elects the best candidate, but I love it when that best candidate happens to be a woman.”
Debates over the party’s platform loomed over the convention, but the delegates voted overwhelmingly for language which called marriage between a man and a woman “the foundation of society.”
