Indiana public housing residents will no longer be allowed to smoke in any federally owned housing, thanks to a new rule that went into effect Monday. In Indiana, 23,000 people live in public housing, and about a third of all adults in public housing smoke. The American Lung Association says the new rule will protect 760,000 children from secondhand smoke.
