More than 1,400 music students, teachers and band directors from across the country descend  on Ball State University for the annual Summer Symposium, a kind of super band-camp now in its 40th year. We talk with some of the event’s organizers about the benefits of music education and how tighter school budgets are affecting students in these programs.
