Strong Storms Hammered And Soaked Muncie Tuesday
Strong thunderstorms packing torrential rainfall and stout winds estimated at 55 mph by the National Weather Service blew through Muncie Tuesday around 5 p.m. Power was knocked out to nearly 2,800 customers of Indiana-Michigan Power in the Muncie area, mostly on the northwest side of the city.
Emergency responders fielded numerous reports of downed tree limbs and high water. There was one report of a tree blown onto a car in a residential neighborhood. Nobody was in the car, or in the home, at the time of the storm. Roof damage was reported to authorities, at a business, on West Bethel Avenue.
Three-tenths of an inch of rainfall was recorded at the Muncie airport after the storm blew through, but some rain gauges northwest of the Ball State campus collected just under an inch of rain, in less than one hour.
