Muncie and Richmond are both losing their JCPenney stores as part of the company’s bankruptcy restructuring.

Thursday afternoon, the department store chain revealed which 154 stores will close.  Nine are in Indiana, including Muncie Mall and Richmond Square.  The other Indiana stores on the list are in Bedford, Elkhart, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Madison, Plymouth and Vincennes.

Store closing sales may start as soon as June 12. They may last up to 16 weeks.

A bankruptcy court judge must approve the plan. More store closings will be announced in the coming weeks.  In total, JCPenney says it will close than a quarter of its stores.
